Lansing Maker Week is almost here. MSU Libraries is one of more than a dozen community partners that will be contributing to Lansing’s first annual Maker Week. As one of the Lansing Maker Week partners, the MSU Libraries will be showcasing maker activities we support during an open house. There will be demos of the Espresso Book Machine, which is capable of printing a book in 7 minutes from a pdf file, and the new 3D printer.

When: Tuesday, October 7 from 12-4pm

Where: 2nd floor of the Main Library.

Over the next two weeks, there are two events that all MSU business students should try to attend.

The Career Resource Fair

When: 9/24-9/25 and 9/29-9/30 from 10am-2pm

Where: 1st floor hallway of the Business College Complex

The Career Resource Fair is a one-stop shop for students to prepare for the Career Gallery! Employers will be paired with Career Center staff to help service students in resume critiques, interviews, elevator speeches, career resourcing and more! The library will be helping to staff the Company Research/Career Resources table....

3D Printing is a form of additive manufacturing that creates objects from digital designs by layering plastic or other material to match the design. This technology is quickly changing how models and products are being created in a wide variety of fields, from airplane engine manufacturing to jewelry design. On Tuesday, September 9, to celebrate the launching of 3D Printing services at the Main Library, MSU Libraries hosted representatives from Packaging, Engineering, and Veterinary Medicine to highlight how the technology is being used on campus.

The Gast Business Library is hosting an Endnote X6 and Endnote Web workshop and a Zotero workshop in October. In these workshops, participants will learn how to import references and create bibliographies with ease.

Business Library Workshops:

Zotero: Wednesday, October 8th from 4:30-6:30pm in Room 22

Endnote X6 and Endnote Web: Tuesday, October 28th from 2-4pm in Room 22

MSU Libraries also offers additional classes in Endnote, Zotero and Mendeley.

Faculty and staff can request that a book in the library stacks be delivered directly to their office with a simple click. Use the Faculty Delivery link in the catalog to request that the book be checked out and sent to your campus office.

Faculty, staff, and students now have access to Mergent Archives which replaced Mergent WebReports. This database provides access to a vast archive of corporate and industry related documents covering over 100 countries and industries.

It contains the following:

-Historical annual reports going back to the early 1900s

-Digital copies of the printed volumes of Moody's/Mergent Manuals going back to the early 1900s

-Historical industry reports for the key industries in North America, Latin America, Europe, and Asia/Pacific

Faculty, staff, and students now have access to Panjiva. This database contains import and export data for more than 15 million U.S. and international companies and 35 million products. It can be used to research global suppliers and trading partners, track specific shipments, and see sourcing trends by HTS code. Access is available through the Gast Business Library's Business Electronic Resources page.

The Gast Business Library now subscribes to Advertising Age and Data Center, including AdAge.com articles and Creativity Online. MSU's subscription links to the AdAge DataCenter. Creativity Online is accessible through the Creativity tab at the top of the page, and the AdAge website is accessible through the AdAge tab. Resources available include profiles of top advertisers, media, agencies, and more. The database can be accessed here: http://libguides.lib.msu.edu/busdatabases.

The Gast Business Library will offer time with therapy dogs for stress relief on Monday, April 28, from 1–4 p.m. in room 13. Terence O'Neill, entrepreneurship librarian, is helping to organize the MSU Hackathon, to be held April 11–13 in Old Town Lansing. This event provides opportunities to network with "makers" (designers, developers, leaders, and enthusiasts), collaborate on ideas and projects, share knowledge, and learn new technologies, tools, utilities, languages, frameworks, and skills.
